How to Build an Ayurvedic Skincare Ritual: A Beginner's Guide

Somewhere along the way, skincare turned into a ten step commitment that requires a spreadsheet to keep track of. If that has ever put you off Ayurvedic skincare before you even started, you are not alone, and you do not actually need any of that to begin.

Start with one ritual, not ten products

Ayurveda was never about complexity. It was built on a small number of consistent daily practices, done with intention, rather than a rotating shelf of products used once and forgotten. The goal is not to overhaul your routine overnight. It is to pick one or two steps and actually stick with them long enough to notice a difference.

A simple morning and evening ritual

In the morning, cleanse with something gentle that will not strip your skin before the day even begins. Our Brown Rice Hydrating Face Wash works well here, followed by the Brown Rice Hydrating Face Serum to lock in hydration that is meant to last through the day, particularly if your skin runs oily or combination.

In the evening, this is where Ayurveda really leans in, since the body does most of its repair work overnight. Cleanse again, then apply the Kumkumadi Night Cream, which combines saffron and bakuchiol to support overnight renewal. This single step, done consistently, tends to matter more than any five step routine done occasionally.

A note on doshas, without overcomplicating it

You will come across the terms vata, pitta and kapha frequently in Ayurvedic skincare, referring to the three constitutional types Ayurveda uses to describe a person's natural tendencies. Broadly, vata skin tends to run dry, pitta skin tends to be more reactive and prone to redness or breakouts, and kapha skin tends to be oilier with larger pores. You do not need to diagnose yourself precisely to begin. Pay attention to how your skin actually behaves and choose products that respond to that, rather than trying to force a routine that was designed for someone else's skin. You can always refine this over time.

Consistency over perfection

Our philosophy has always been that healing is not something you do once in a crisis. It is something you practice, in small, repeated moments, until it becomes part of how you take care of yourself without having to think about it. Start small. Pick one ritual. Let it become a habit before you add the next one.

That is really the whole point of Ayurveda. Not more steps. Just steps that you actually keep.
